MP3 (MP4 player) SC85051F
Post by wilko1 on Aug 21, 2006, 1:38pm
Hi, any help with the following problem would be very, very much appreciated. Recently bought the unbranded MP3 (MP4 - AMV) player (SC85051F using ACT_V3.5.35). All was going well as I loaded it up with music and video files until I reached a point where it started reporting format problems even on files that it had previously played. I decided to delete everything I had put on it but there are some which simply won't delete. I can delete the file but then the folder won't delete. Then when I open the folder again, the file is back! (although it reports 0kb).
Also, even though I have deleted most, it still reports the same memory usage as when I had it loaded up! Any help will be very graciously and gratefully recieved! Regards, Tony

I actually got so fed up with this problem that I decided to format the drive and hang the consequences! Strangely enough, the only consequence was a perfectly working player! Formatting in windows XP didn't touch the operating system at all and left me with a clean player ready to load up again. I think my original problems started after ripping a dodgy CD from China! All is well with the world again and maybe this will be of use to someone else!

How do you perform a Windows format? Is it as simple as just right clicking in Windows Explorer and selecting Format on the drive? Also, after the format, is it necessary to reinstall any of the clones software or is still there in the Flash memory?
I wouldn't want to format and lose everything, but I'd like to get rid of that empty folder that I can't delete.

It is perfectly safe to format with windows. The firmware is on a different part of the memoery chip that can only be accessed by the updating software. I think formatting with windos is easier. just make sure you choose FAT or FAT32 and not NTFS.

what OS are you running???? xp, 98????? There should be a disk with the drivers on it. But if it is XP it should find it automatically. Try pluggin it in with the switch off.

Hey Scrub50187
I am using XP and normally it should find the player automatically. Other USB-devices are working without problems. The USB-cable is ok, too.
I tried what you suggest but without success...
Maybe I need a driver for the player?
Have you other ideas???

Hi !
I have the same problem here like the others that the USB dont recognize the mp3/mp4 player at all and says it is unknown unit in USB port. I have a windows XP sp 2 computer with 6 USB ports on it and it says the same on all of them. i have both 1.1 usb ports and 2.0 and it says the same on them all that it doesnt recognize the hardware on the usb port.
The driver CD does no help , when the drivers are for Win 98.
I have tried to modify the USB and change firmwares for the USB but nothing works. I cant even find any firmware other stuff that should help me to help the computer to know the mp3/mp4 player..
Hope some1 finds the problem cause i have wasted 2 days to search the damn error...

hi ! I have just came up with the problem and a solution for fixing the player for them who gets the message that USB doesnt recognize the unit pluggin on the port. The problem is the SP 2, it has 2 files that stops the USB to understand the player. by degrading the XP system to SP 1 the player works just fine and no problems at all. On Win 2000 there is no problems either. Win ME and the drivers for Win 98 for them with win 98 as OS will not have any problems either, but them with XP and SP 2 and latest shit installed from Microsoft will experience this problem. So get rid of SP 2 and go down to sp1 at the moment. for futher future i will try to see if i can fix the file errors so the player will be recognized on SP 2 too.
Just some help on the way dudes !

If you plug your player in and your computer doesn't recognize it at all, then try turning the ON/OFF switch to off. If it still doesn't work, try on. I have had XP SP 2, and now I am using XP MCE SP 2 and I don't have a problem. It should read your player as a ADFU device if anything. I know that there is a little trick to get the computer to recognize it. It is usually just a matter of turning it on or off. And for the F/W3.2.69, that is only for older players. It is not designed for newer players at all. I have that written with the download link. If you try and use it on your newer player it will kill it.

Hello, everybody!
First, sorry for my english, i'll try to do my best.
My new MP3/4 uses SC85051F
ACT_V3.5.35 too. Display - 1.5. I've got some problems with:
1 - I put some folders with mp3's on the player, it can see them, but i can't play the music directly from one of the folders, i'm obliged to swich the songs one by one, eventhough the songs are organazed folder by folder. I've got 4 gb, so itsn't practic to switch 2 or 3 gb of mp3's to find the song.Could someone help me please?
2 - I can't play the AMV files on it. The demo file goes on without problems but all the video i added gives a "ERROR FORMAT" result. I read the others posts about this problem, i tried the AMV CONVERT TOOL with all resolutions with and without "TRY ANOTHER CODEC", i converted mpeg's, avi's, asf's etc. but it stills don't work. PLEASE HELP.
Thank's for futur help.

Look at hte sub-folder post I made on these forums. That will tell you the problem with that. The amv problem might be set for the wrong chip type.

Why did you try an upgrade your firmware????? If it is working then there is no reason to upgrade.
